So, Can You Drive With a Bad Water Pump?

If the water pump is failing but the vehicle is still running at a normal temperature, you may technically be able to drive a short distance. However, there is no reliable way to know how long the pump will continue working.
Once coolant circulation is significantly reduced or stops completely, the engine can overheat rapidly. Driving an overheating vehicle can cause expensive damage, including a blown head gasket, warped cylinder head, or severe engine failure.
If your temperature gauge is climbing into the hot zone or you see steam coming from under the hood, stop driving and have the vehicle inspected as soon as possible.
